e-mail and the internet have largely replaced most personal interactions. We no longer need to be in a physical space to communicate. This can lead to some unexpected outcomes since it can feel like we’re talking to ourselves and to others.
So what does this mean for people’s social lives? It can mean that the ones we really care about become distant and disconnected. Instead of face to face, we may simply end up on Skype and texting. That’s okay though since we can still see each other and talk face to face, but we can’t interact physically. This can lead us to become less social and less effective as a whole.
We’re not all that social, but in the grand scheme of things, we are. We’ve also got tons of other ways to communicate too. Technology has enabled us to communicate much more efficiently. The average person has only an average of three phones and five other forms of communication. While the technology has helped us become much more social, a great part of our lives still remains unbearably lonely.
It’s amazing how many of us can barely even find the time to text. Or even respond to a text, let alone read a letter. Social media has made this even worse, but at least people are talking to each other. The problem is that we don’t have the time to be social. We do have time though, and if we really want to be social, we could be doing it via IM, SMS, and email.
This isn’t to say that we can’t still communicate with family and other close friends, but for the most part, we’re still doing it in person.
This is because many people use IM, SMS, and Email to communicate. But IM, SMS, and Email are not the same thing as face-to-face. If people are going to use IM, SMS, and Email to communicate, they also have to be doing it in person. But even that is still a minority. In general, most of us are not even doing IM, SMS, or Email to communicate.
In general, the majority of us are still interacting on the phone-to-phone basis. Texting is a bit different than email, but it is still a common way for people to communicate. Of course, IM is one of those things that has evolved in so many ways that its origins are lost in a sea of confusion.
IM is probably the most common way for us to communicate in the digital age.
IM is a text-based mode of communication that can be used in two ways. One is to send a text to another person, or to someone you know on a certain level. But another mode of IM is to send a text to a specific person, which is what e-mail is. The best example of this is FaceTime. A FaceTime client will recognize you as the person you’re speaking to, regardless of where you were when you sent the call.
But it’s not just a matter of messaging someone you know from afar. Most social media sites have also gone this route. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube all have their own proprietary IM systems. Gmail, for example, has a system that allows you to send a text directly to someone else.
